Go Go Godzilllla

Mardi Gras 2010 I was driving with some friends in central city, parallel to the parade route, looking for parking. We happend upon some pretty arresting architecture along the way. The one house which made us stop the car for a better look was the so called ' alligator house'. We knew nothing of this house at the time. The song 'Go Go Godzilla' happened to be playing on the radio sealing the moment in our memories.
I later found out the name of the house and the architect who designed it.

Dear Mr. Coker,

I just wanted to send you a note about my admiration for your Alligator house. Consider this fan mail.
I graduated from Tulane in the Spring, and I was back in New Orleans for Mardi Gras this year.

I was on my way to the St. Charles Parade route on the Friday before Mardi Gras when I saw the house. My friend was driving and we had to stop the car to admire the house. I will never forget coming across this house. It is hard for me to describe how I feel about it but I was amazed. It has taken me a few weeks of web sleuthing to be able to find out information on it. I found out today that you are responsible for it.

I am not an architecture student but it is something I am very interested in as an observer. I had the privilege to hear the architecture critic, Paul Goldberger, give a talk on his latest book this fall. In this talk he used the phrase "architecture is the stage set for our memories." This could not be more true of the Alligator house. The song Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult was playing on the radio when we saw it that night. Too perfect given the name of the house.

Thank you,

He sent a short response and a great photo (above) of the house that I had not seen before on the internet:

Thank you for your kind words, they mean a great deal.

Best,

Coleman

Months later a friend sent me this photo of the house from Dwell Magazine:

Porsche 918 hybrid first drive on public roads

Proving once again just how serious they are about getting into (and dominating) the hybrid game, Porsche took their 918 plug-in hybrid to the pebble beach concours. Porsche have been developing their hybrid technology on the racetrack including at the Nurburgring 24 hours. This is a video from a few days before the appearance at pebble beach. the video includes some very interesting insight from michael mauer, Porsche ag design chief:

"when we started the 918 spyder project we decided we will try to keep it a secret

it is a vision for the future of the brand

the importance of this car was that due to the environment discussion there were big big question marks about the future of this type of cars and therefore as well of the future of the Porsche brand. so therefore we wanted to have the symbol that there is a future

we are using a technology that is pointing out what could be in the future but is still realistic to have it today in the car

we test in the race to be sure that it is the right technology, the right combination of components.

the next step is to move to production

the most important message is that there is no contradiction any more between performance between having fun driving and this whole environmental discussion

we are combining the best of different worlds"

wheel arch, lower lips all fabricated from metal...no cracking issue like fibre does..
handling is provided by HWL adjustable, with front height sets to the lowest point...
rims is original works euroline DH with ridiculous offset (15x8jj et-11 front, 15x8jj et-18 rear) running with 175/50/15 for the hipari & JDM tightness looks..
fuel consumption is good, with full tank should clocked about 400km +/-
lubricants & fluids is fully provided by motul ;)

basically, everything is done to perfection, and all it need is just a new careful owner like i am...

for those who wanna go fast, yrv conversion is available with additional cost of course, and the most expensive accessories for it is just a sunroof, which could set u rm3.5k-4k with parts, workmanship & paint...

Valentino Rossi Sunglasses

After much web sleuthing, I was able to figure out the brand and model of Valentino Rossi's shades that he has been wearing for some time now. He is obviously sponsored by the company, you think they would do a better job advertising what sunglasses he is wearing. Anyway here they are:

Company: Spy Optic
Model: Murena

And for no reason, The Doctor's dogs, Cesare and Cecilia:

Hesitated about lowering your car?

Not exactly in the best mood now.. Stuck at home with nothing to do with my last 3 cigarettes in a packet which I took out from the dustbin (In the process of quitting smoking).. So I decided to take myself away to Driftneyland. I found just about the perfect pictures to portrait slamming your drift cars. Hope this short write up would do you some good than harm

When I tell others about lowering cars, there's always a common mistake here in Malaysia. Here, most of us will instantly ask, 'How many fingers?' a.k.a how many fingers you can put fit in between your fenders and wheels. Uhh.. that was the definition of slamming from the 80's man.. Who said there will be any fingers in the first place?

Then, when they see pictures like this, they'll start assuming. "OH COME ONNN... that car CAN'T DRIFT.. No WAY...... " Hello? Check out those battle scars :p

Then, there'll be the 2nd excuse.. "It's my DAILY CAR....." Swear to God, I'll die to go to work in this even if I have to travel pass an army of speed humps to get to my work place. Remember earlier we were talking about cars like these are unable to drift?

Don't ass-u-me.. This car has less roll compared to your "battle spec" drift machine.. Just need to know how to do it properly. I hate to tell you this.. but, Google actually helped me more than merely understanding chassis geometry settings. Not to mention the great friends I made along the way in the fun world of drifting. Lowering your car can be a mess, but if you'd figure out the science behind the screws, you're on your way. It's no rocket science.
