NAME THAT TREND! OXBLOOD ROUND TOES

With trends recycling the way they do, it is no wonder that we run screaming move on from the pointed shoe style from the late nineties and early noughties. On my trip to America last month I unfortunately encountered many in this variety, horrified of course to find them raise up at the tip or covered in faux-alligator.

The trend of today is the love child of Dr. Martens and, I don't know, a very old bottle of wine. These round-toed beauties are available from Paul Smith and Alfred Sergant to name only two. Wear these like you would your more preppy items. Would you buy into this trend?

HEAR THIS: CALGARY BY BON IVER

I try to break away from fashion from time to time. I find it keeps me sane to be someone else for a few hours. Bon Iver has been the perfect escape for me and although I hate the idea of a mass hype for this music, I do want to share it. This is Calgary off of his new self-titled album which comes out at the end of June '11. 'For Emma, Forever Ago' was a masterpiece and completely untouchable but with the new release of this single I have hope for it being as good. Take a moment to listen.

WOOD TIES FROM WOOD THUMB

Sometimes you hear of a novelty item or gimmick and assume it's a joke. I've heard of wooden speakers, cufflinks, I even posted on wooded watches last week. But wooden ties? Google it, I dare you. 

Well Wood thumb, a San Francisco based company have taken reclaimed wood and given it new life. These collapsible accessories promise to get you into all the clubs, but I'm not so sure. Still, they are making their rounds and it seems to have caught on a bit of a following. I guess I would have to give it a try myself to tell for sure. 

What do you think about wooden ties as a trend? There are multiple websites offering their own versions. From a recycling standpoint it's great, but what about fashion?

RYAN GOSLING CANNES DO NO WRONG

I love this man. When he was a teenager I wasn't much of a fan but nowadays I salute the man on his fantastic movie roles and major success on red carpets. This man can really do no wrong. Recently Gosling touched down in Cannes, France to promote his latest role. Dressed head to toe in Ferragamo he is looking sharp and his choices in colour are unrivaled as ever. For the Drive photocall he wore these remarkable blue and white wingtips with his navy trimmed button top. This look has caught fire online and while it is a lot more relaxed than the runway version I expect his version may be favored.

Now it's reported the actor will debut as Director for the 1980 movie remake The Idolmaker! He will also star in the production. That should be good.

Like a lot of the top musicians of the past, John Lennon had a certain individual style so prominent that the mere shape of a pair of sunglasses can point to him directly. These round silver frames are part of the latest Lennon trend and are available from Sunglass Hut for a mere R1670.

I was going to get them myself but I had to be realistic, they just didn't suit my face. You on the other hand should go try them on for yourself. They even have a similar pair by Tom Ford with a thicker frame in tortoise shell.
